From Anonyomus Coward at 2006-11-27 23:58:18 : The guard would be loacted in the REAR cab of the eight car train on SURFACE Stock. The guard would only be loacted in passenger saloons on TUBE Stock trains.
From Railway Image Galleries at 2006-11-28 00:08:57 : You're correct with regard to the C and D stocks. The Guard did control the doors from the rear cab - making conversion to OPO that bit easier. But the Guard's panels were located next to the single leaf doors in the passenger saloons of the DM vehicles in the A stock. Indeed after the A stock was converted for OPO use - but before it was refurbished - Drivers still operated the Guard's position switch in the passenger saloon, even though the door controls were located in the cab by that time.
